-LOOKS-
Appearance:
Kankri looks like the slightly more polished, slightly softer version of his younger brother, Karkat. Despite Karkat's occasional protests otherwise, there's really no mistaking the family resemblance if being in the same house and only a year apart wasn't bad enough. They've got the same dark hair and skin, and even the same striking red eyes which are, at least, a bit less bizarre within the safety of the magical world. Muggles have all sorts of interesting comments to say about them...and with nary a care for how triggering it might be for someone to constantly be barraged by a physical trait that they could hardly help, at that! Kankri does put a bit more time and effort into taming what seems to be genetically permanent bed head hair than his brother does, but of course, that's totally a matter of preference and Kankri likes to make it very clear that he completely respects Karkat's right to his own preferences. Usually by mentioning it at least every other time he sees him looking particularly bushy.
He's also a bit pudgier than his brother, made all the more apparent (according to Karkat and absolutely no one else with any sense of manners, mind you, not that he's trying to shame Karkat for having no manners) by the whopping inch taller Karkat happens to be. At 5'5", Kankri's pretty much resigned himself to not getting any taller, but he's also determined to one day be in a position where he can advocate for the visibility (and thank you for refraining from ill colored jokes about simply having to look down for that to happen) of short wizards and how they're just as capable and competent as their taller counterparts, of course!
Regardless of the weather, he's almost always wearing a bright red sweater beneath his uniform robes. He purchased a few Gryffindor ones to show house solidarity as well, though those are mostly used for special occasions like watching Quidditch matches (though...don't even get him started on all of the unhealthy social influences that go into a single sports game!) or sitting at the end of the year feasts when the house winners are announced. He also has a few with white snowflake print for the (non denominational) holidays.

-ABOUT-
Personality:
Verbose and bordering on snobby (though, it's not like he can help how people perceive him trying to educate them, of course), Kankri has the tendency to feel bad for (definitely not superior to!) those who aren't as...educated, he'd say, as he is in many of the social injustices of the magical world. From an early age, he has been caught up in looking at the world around him and focusing on what he feels are problematic changes that need to be made.
...Granted, he almost exclusively focuses on things he feels directly affect him, but it's hardly worth the several hours of carefully constructed explanation of how that's just not true that comes with pointing it out... Even if his ideals are...possibly left of center of anything actually all that helpful, his heart is in the right place with those he actually does care about, though that's rarely obvious. He has trouble genuinely expressing himself most of the time, often getting buried under trying to be as unproblematic as possible that he fails to actually listen to others as to how he can actually accomplish that (and often being the exact opposite because of that). He's actually rather shy beneath his bluster and tends to prefer talking about large, abstract social concepts than about specific details about his life or his feelings. He's much more likely to preface a response to a question about how he personally feels about something by putting it into a social context that avoids really answering that at all.
Background:
Kankri was born and raised in America for the first twelve years of his life, and while he likes to paint himself as the martyr big brother who did his best to keep up with Karkat and stay together during their time in foster care as small children, it was honestly more like the other way around. He wasn't very put together or able to deal with many of the realities of their situation then, though he did certainly compile a great many lists of injustices that he still feels were personally damaging and wants to be in a position to address one day.
After their grandfather found them, largely by chance, and relocated them to England to enroll at Hogwarts and live with him, Kankri immediately became fascinated by the mechanisms of the Ministry of Magic and the inner workings of wizard government. His aim after graduation is to become a worker within the MoM (he's got some suggestions for a better shorthand name that's not really so heavily comparable to the actual word "mom" as in America that can also mean "mother" and really, that's sort of misleading for mothers everywhere, isn't it...) and to further campaigns he'd like to head for the visibility and rights of a whole slew of people he feels are underrepresented in the wizarding world. He's begun that process by being appointed a Gryffindor prefect and now Head Boy for his year, keeping himself involved in the social pools of Hogwarts life and community as well (well, his definition of involved at least). He's also considered looking into a teaching position at Hogwarts one day as well, perhaps in History of Magic so that it can be taught properly with attention paid to all of the overwhelmingly absent aspects that he's seen again and again along the way, of course.

N/A
Quirks & Et cetera:
Kankri was considered rather insufferable as a prefect and now as a Head Boy as well as he has the tendency to lecture anyone he reprimands into a corner (so that they can understand their transgression, of course), and he tends to be simultaneously a stickler for following the rules and notorious for going on long winded rants about why he feels certain ones are archaic and a chore to follow. It's often unclear whether you're supposed to actually listen when he tells you off or not, but a lot of students just tune him out. Someone actually started a house-wide "told off by Kankri" bingo card game with squares for things he's often likely to bring out in his discussions. It's uncertain if Karkat was the one who started it or not, but several students have won enough pocket change to buy their fill of sweets on Hogsmeade visits out of it either way. If he's aware of it, no one's heard anything, and that alone makes it very likely he's not aware of it.
He's actually fond of baking and obtained a pass that allowed him to go and visit with the house elves from time to time somewhere in his fifth year. Virtually no one cared if he did or not, and students sneak in and out of the kitchens all the time, but he was determined that he'd have the appropriate paperwork in place all the same. He spends his free time tucked away either in the kitchens, the library, or out of the way nooks and lofts in various more secluded places in the castle, often studying or writing up more speeches to share.
He's remained determined not to enter into any romantic relationships and opts to sit out of romantically inclined functions such as dances whenever possible. He's not entirely sure if anyone would be interested in a romantic relationship anyway, but he cites that it would distract from his studies and preparation for the future.
Kankri is quite proficient at knitting and several of Karkat's more snuggly sweaters came from him, though he's found that leaving them around in random places in the dorm is better to make sure he gets them than actually trying to gift them. Despite all his other shortcomings, he does keep a drawer of premade socks, mittens, and scarves for first years that may have forgotten some basic winter time supplies, and he's also likely to loan a few knuts or a sickle or two to students who ran out or forgot their money for Hogsmeade trips and other little necessities during the school year.
